Federated Architecture for Composed Infrastructure Services

The FACIS project Federation Architecture for Composition Infrastructure Services enhances the development of collaborative ecosystems by orchestrating innovative federated infrastructures and exemplary governance frameworks (e.g., Service Level Agreements). It achieves this through the development and application of Federation Architecture Patterns (FAPs), machine-readable Service Level Agreements (SLAs), and low-code technologies. The goals include the seamless integration of different providers, the harmonization of SLAs, and the accelerated adoption of digital services. The project supports the implementation of forward-looking applications, such as the digital product passport, AI-driven processes, and Collaborative Condition Monitoring in Industry 4.0.

By utilizing European standards such as the European Digital Identity (eID) and publishing the project results as free & Open Source, FACIS reduces reliance on non-European providers. The practical applicability is demonstrated in pilot projects and test environments, for example, in monitoring production processes or optimizing global supply chains within sovereign Cloud-Edge operational frameworks. In doing so, FACIS makes a significant contribution to strengthening a sustainable digital infrastructure in Europe.

Open Resource Discovery

ORD is an open protocol for the decentralized publishing and discovery of application and service metadata. It provides a structured schema for metadata such as endpoints, capabilities, documentation links, and ownership details, ensuring that application resources like APIs, events, data products and AI agents can be discovered, understood, and integrated consistently across different systems and marketplaces.

Common Metadata Language: ORD defines a clear, machine-readable format for describing APIs, events, data products, agents and related resources, ensuring consistent structure across all producers.

Improves Resource Discoverability: It standardizes key details like endpoints, capabilities and ownership, making resources easier to find and understand.

Enables Cross-System Interoperability: Using one shared specification lets platforms and tools exchange and interpret resource descriptions without custom integrations.

Extensible Schema: ORD supports safe extensions, so organizations can add domain-specific fields without breaking compatibility, allowing flexibility for future needs.
